VOICE ACTING LESSONS VS CRITIQUES

For the past half year or so, I’ve been holding private online voice acting consultations for beginner level voice actors.  Its a performance evaluation from a working professional.   I’ve gotten glowing reviews from folks all around the US and Canada.  In a world sadly full of snake oil salesmen,  a few justifiably skeptical folks have asked “Why is someone from radio qualified to teach voice acting?”   I’d say I agree.  I DON’T feel I am qualified to teach acting nor do I feel that what I’m doing is teaching voice acting.  Learning, honing, and perfecting those skills comes from training with master veterans of the craft through seminars, classes, and in school.  My background was on the air, not the stage,  but I do have a decade of actual real world experience in numerous facets of voice over (feel free to check my credits).   I’ve seen how the industry works, and have absorbed a lot personally and through countless industry peers over that amount of time.

What I offer a beginner isn’t a class on being a better actor.  Its a 60 minute evaluation of your performance of provided script samples in animation and commercials.  Its a learn-by-doing exercise in cold reading, improv, and listening.  You can ask questions, get customized direction and feedback in a simulated audition/recording environment.  If you have a demo, I can give a detailed analysis of that as well.  Ultimately, you’ll need to take full on classes/seminars and get experience to continue down this career path.  I’m just here to help you get started.  Here is a brand new testimonial from a session I had just hours ago…….

After two years of recording alone for fan projects on the Voice Acting Alliance Boards, I felt that it was time to ask someone in the industry for help. When I discovered that Kyle was giving private consultations via Skype, I was thrilled! We had a fantastic session, and he was already prepared with a script ripe for vocal exploration. We were able to read through the lines like it would really happen in an audition. This sort of cold read-through is essential for those wanting to be a voice actor. He gave me an honest evaluation of my deliveries and told me how I could vary my interpretations to deliver the lines in a more convincing way. I was nervous at first, but as we got more into the session, I began to feel at ease as we took breaks to talk and joke around.    His criticism is done in a friendly, constructive manner and his compliments are great confidence boosters. Kyle can give you something you won’t get from friends or family: a professional and objective opinion, which are indispensable tools for those looking for self-improvement in the field of professional voice acting. Thanks again for your help, Kyle!
