Private Voice Acting Consultations.
TESTIMONIALS – PAYMENT – BACK2HOME
So you’re interested in becoming a voice actor.
Ever been curious about the world behind the voices of your favorite animation and video games? Ever wonder what its like to audition or if you’ve got what it takes to start down the path of this exciting and competitive field? Maybe you’ve taken some theater in school or gotten some acting experience under your belt. Perhaps you’ve cobbled together a first attempt at a demo, or are on the verge of making one. Now you’re looking to get a professional opinion and are seeking some helpful direction and advice. I’m happy to announce a new service aimed at entry level voice actors.
I offer private one-on-one hour long sessions online via Skype. In these sessions, I will share some script samples from animation and commercials, select a few to have you perform, and critique your performance. If you’ve got a demo or recorded samples, I can analyze those as well. I’ve worked in radio, commercials, audio books, video games, and animation for over a decade collectively. Given my experience in the field, I will give you an honest evaluation and point out your signature strengths as well as areas to work on. A voice actor has to juggle many aspects at once: cold reading skills, being a good listener/taking direction, improvisation, maintaining a character voice if applicable, among other things.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: If you’ve got a speech impediment or thick regional accent, this is not for you. You’ll need a speech therapist or dialect coach. If you do a great impression of “insert character name here”, this is not for you. Impressions are just imitations…not acting. If you have a demo littered with Family Guy, etc, you will NOT get work. All those roles are cast. Impressions say nothing about your acting ability. You’ll need to create and sustain a believable performance. While sound-a-likes and voice matching are a viable form of voice work, that is not the focus of my private sessions. Being a fan of anime, cartoons, or video games is NOT enough. Acting on these projects requires passion and dedication to studying and honing a craft. This requires commitment that doesn’t come fast or easy.
If you think I am offering a quick “in” to the industry, this is not for you. There is absolutely no guarantee of work, signing with an agent, etc no matter who you study with. I am not casting projects, on a talent search, or in the business of demo production. There are many others with various areas of expertise in voice over. I will be happy to assist in recommending other resources depending on your desire or focus, as part of your evaluation and guidance. These sessions aren’t meant as a replacement for the benefits you’d gain by taking full length acting classes and workshops.
SO HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
My base price per hour session is $75. This is roughly half the average cost of a private session in voice over training. Payment is expected in full via Paypal only. Once payment is received, then we will coordinate a date and time via email. Cancellations or rescheduling will be dealt with on an individual basis. There is no pressure to take multiple sessions, nor a minimum amount expected. No strings attached. Seriously. Follow me on Twitter or Facebook and keep your eye out for discount days, coupon codes, or referral programs.
WHAT WILL I NEED FOR OUR SKYPE SESSION?
Don’t worry, you DON’T need a fancy expensive mic or home studio set up. However, you will need to download Skype, which is a free voice chat program and obviously you’ll need a headset or desktop mic. While Skype does support video chats, don’t worry about webcams, we are focusing on audio. I just need to be able to hear you.
If you have a demo or recorded clips you’d like me to evaluate, have a link or the actual mp3s handy to share. My private sessions are unstructured and free flowing. Feel free to ask any questions at any point during the session.
OK….THIS SOUNDS COOL, WHAT DO I DO NOW?
